Trailer Analysis

Having looked at our final trailer, we are all really impressed with our final product as we believe it represents our movie really well. However to produce this we had to adapt many different versions which we previously formed. Firstly, we included many long shots of the computer and garage scenes. These were very long winded and took away from the suspense of the trailer. Therefore we cut these down to a few seconds and put them in random orders to give a disturbed effect. Also, before our end trailer we had our shots in chronological order which after some constructive criticism we decided that this gives too much away and is more like a "mini movie" than a trailer. Therefore we played around with the order and muddled around the short, snappy shots of the scenes which we believe gives an uneasy, disturbed result which reflects the plot well.
With the music/sound effects on the trailer, we used the pre-made sounds on programme IMovie which I believe has really brought the trailer together. The combination of the drones and loud bangs creates the suspense and sets the scene of the movie. We also included a voiceover which gives a radio effect. We included this to allow the audience to understand that “Charlie” has gone missing and after analysing other trailers, this is a common theme. Other effects we used were still images throughout the trailer. This gives the trailer a sharp snappy edge as it breaks up the video footage. It will disturb the audiences viewing as they would not expect alarming pictures to come onto the screen and will increase the scary atmosphere.

After showing our trailer too many people to generate some feedback we came back with some very constructive thoughts. Many said that we have used a good variety of camera angles which adds to the disturbed nature of the trailer. Also everyone who viewed it said that we had an excellent use of sound and liked the fact that we hadn’t given too much away as we didn’t include any shots of the killer. They said it looked very professional as all the shots flowed well together giving a great final trailer.
The main criticism/suggestion given to us was about the length of our trailer. This was an issue for us as the whole trailer ended up being 1 minute 8 seconds which is relatively short for a film trailer. However we believed that if we had extended any of our shots, this would have taken away from the suspense of the trailer as the short, snappy scenes added to the atmosphere. Also, we did not want to include any more footage as this would have given away too much of the movie and we wanted to specially focus on our main character.
